Jean-Pierre Veillette, CBC TV producer, has tested the UNIDEN Atlantis 250-BK communication system for the 2014 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships TV production in Montreal, which took place March 14th to 16th.
According to Kimpex Marine Catalogue, this handheld system (also offered in grey) is a waterproof, portable two-way VHF transceiver designed for all-around use. Uniden has packed standard marine-radio features along with technological advances and sleek design into this model. It’s compact, lightweight and fits easily in your hand; and full NOAA capabilities means you’re always weather wise.
During my tests, the “walkie-talkie” was easy to use and the communication was very clear even at long-range. The various selection of channels allowed us to choose a channel that we were sure to be the only ones to use, as there was a lot of communication traffic on site.
During our television production, both devices were used to be in direct communication with the championship organisation team and the CBC TV control room.
The next big test of the Uniden Units will be in May, on a preparation expedition north of the Mauricie region (QC) in order to be ready for the great Canoe-Camping expedition on the Broadback River at the end of June.
