Innovative design
The magic of the FF393 lies in its innovative system which allows for a 180° flip of the lower front part, thus clearing the lower part of the face. In addition, this retractable part folds over completely at the back as opposed to ordinary modular helmets which have a tendency meanwhile to fight against the wind propelling the head towards the back. It is a real pleasure to ride with this open helmet, and to roll it down to have increased protection if needed at higher speeds.
Road tests
Having covered some thousands of kilometres with the LS2 helmet (5,674 km to be precise), I can say that I have thoroughly tested my very first modular motorcycle helmet. What best summarizes my experience with the FF393 is: convinced!
Weather conditions which prevailed during my road tests were very variable. Temperatures ranged from 3°C to 27°C… In the sun or rain or even with snow while on an ATV, I really liked this helmet. It has an ingenious design, with its totally retractable part at the back that offers an appreciable 2 in 1 advantage when riding at high speeds. Either we opt for a full face helmet with optimal protection advantage or we decide to remove the front, thus freeing the lower face and allowing us to enjoy the wind caressing the skin… or the beard!
Its opening system is efficient, easy to use and very solid. However, the mechanism on the outside of the shell creates a more noticeable noise while riding. The helmet is thus comfortable when a windshield on the motorcycle deflects the wind, but with a model without the wind protection, the noise is disturbing. That’s the only complaint I have!
Target clientele
The LS2 FF393 may be suitable to several people… such as long-ride enthusiasts who enjoy riding from village to village on secondary roads. These people will certainly like to tip up the helmet to feel the wind when they enter a low-speed area, and be able to talk with the Lady seated behind.
And for those who do a bit of everything, since the helmet offers good ventilation as well as excellent protection.
The more sporty motorcycle enthusiasts will also like this helmet. The points that could perceived as negative for this helmet with this type of customer are: its weight being heavier than a ‘’full face’’ and the fact that it is slightly noisier, due to the wind blowing against its shell with the retractable system on the sides.
But one thing is sure: this helmet is unique because of its revolutionary design. It clearly stands out against what is being offered in the market and I recommend it without any hesitation!
