CKX TITAN - Product review by Destination Monts-Valin

CKX has made a breakthrough this last while with the design of a unique helmet, one which will appeal to all in terms of both its look and use. While its release on the market is scheduled for this fall, the CKX TITAN has logged countless hours in design work and field testing. Though few people have had the chance to put the helmet to test, I was one of the privileged ones.

Last winter, I had the chance to try out a CKX TITAN prototype helmet. In March 2016, I had the pleasure of having the best possible conditions for the test. I confronted Mother Nature on mornings nearing -30°C while during the afternoon the temperature was a glorious -5°C. This totally waterproof helmet kept me warm on those cold mornings, while the air vents controlled the heat and humidity during intense exercising in warmer weather.

Backcountry, there are so many times in a day when we must remove our helmets to get a breath of fresh air or even remove our fogged-up glasses from excessive effort to rescue a friend stuck in several feet of snow. While trying out this helmet, I noticed something surprising. I would put the Titan helmet on in the morning and take it off only at dinnertime. Because the muzzle is easily retractable and removable, I had all the fresh air I needed for periods of intense effort. This also prevents fogging up our glasses and having to change goggles several times during the day, it’s awesome!

Let’s talk about the goggles now. What is negative about a pair of goggles with ultra panoramic vision that has a 210° field of vision, compared with a simple 165 to 180° on most standard goggles? These goggles were designed as an integral part of the helmet, meaning they fit the shape of the helmet perfectly, which has the effect of perfectly eliminating any air infiltration that could really be annoying. So wearing a balaclava is almost useless. The only advice I could give would be to purchase a second pair of lenses, one yellow or clear for outings on grey days, or for night time. But it’s the same battle for almost all helmets and glasses on the market! However, if my sources are reliable, there will be a yellow lens supplied in the box.

In short, the CKX TITAN will find its niche on both off-road or trails, and will meet all your expectations. Also, since I am owner of an off-road snowmobile guide business, I asked many customers to try it out over the past season, on trails and backcountry, and their comments were unanimous for comfort, versatility and incredible vision. Whether it’s for a breath of fresh air, a conversation or to have a drink, every user will find something in this removable muzzle. Get ready to see the TITAN helmet invade the trails this winter!
